Heating & Cooling annual maintenance and tune-ups are one of the best ways you can thank your HVAC system for its years of hard work. Many of us take our HVAC systems for granted, not realizing that it's the most used appliances in our homes during peak seasons. Your systems efficiency and saving on energy bill will be determined by how well your system is maintained throughout the years. There are a few factors that need to be considered to determine the cost of  your maintenance. For example:

  • Number of systems
  • Age of the equipment
  • Necessary repairs

No matter what type of system you have, it should still be maintained, cleaned, and serviced at least once a year. The older the system gets, the more repairs it will need, therefore signing up with a yearly maintenance plan would be the most cost-effective way to keep your system running. Maintenance plans also come with discounts and perks so you could sae money on those last emergency calls.

Heating & cooling maintenance and tune-ups typically cost between $130 and $500. A full system inspection is performed by a licensed technician to determine if the system is operating correctly. If any serious problems are found during the maintenance call, the repairs are presented to the homeowner and could affect the the overall cost of the maintenance and repair.

How Much Does It Cost To Replace a Heating & Cooling System?

Replacing a heating & cooling system is a big investment and should be carefully evaluated not only by an HVAC company but also by the homeowner. Each home has a unique design and installing the right type of an heating and cooling system is important in order to get the best efficiency. When an estimate is scheduled, a sales technician will go through an in-depth evaluation of the home before providing a price. The average cost to replace a heating and cooling system can range from $4,500 to $9,500. Installing a new furnace and air conditioner for a home that doesn't have duct work can cost between $6,500 and $19,500.
What to pay attention to when selecting the right HVAC system?
When upgrading your furnace, it's important to pay close attention to the AFUE rating (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency). Swapping from 80% AFUE gas furnace to a system with a 90% AFUE rating or higher will affect the saving on your energy bill. The higher the AFUE, the higher the savings.

Unlike furnaces system, heat pump's have a HSPF rating (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). The HSPF measures the total heat output of a heat pump. A heat pump also has a SEER rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), which measures the efficiency in cooling mode. Once a heat pump hits 10 years, the HSPF rating will lower less than 7.7, when standard energy efficiency should be at 8.2 HSPF.

When shopping for a new air conditioner, it's also good to remember that you are shopping for a quality HVAC company that can install the right energy-efficient system for your home. A few key terms to pay attention to when speaking with a sales HVAC technician is SEER, tonnage, and climate zone. Not every home is designed equally, therefore making sure that your system is not over sized or undersized is going to play a big roll in energy efficiency. Below you will see a climate zone map and an air conditioner square footage range and BTUh by climate zone. This will guide you to determine what size of an air conditioner system that would best fit your home.

How Much Does It Cost To Inspect a Heating & Cooling System?

Why would someone want a heating and cooling inspection performed on their HVAC system? What is the difference between heating and cooling inspection and heating and cooling maintenance? These are great questions that we get asked on a daily basis. When performing a heating and cooling maintenance a technician will clean, inspect, and maintenance the HVAC system. Where a heating and cooling inspection is strictly an inspection of the HVAC system, whenever a homeowner is selling their home, a full HVAC inspection may be requested by a new buyer. This is important, especially if they don't know the condition of the HVAC system. No one wants to buy a home and later find out that their furnace needs to be replaced or repaired. Make sure to bring up the a HVAC inspection to your real estate agent before placing an offer on a home.

In an inspection, the technician would perform several tests on the HVAC system to make sure it's operating as expected. Here is a list of the few inspection tasks they will check for. These may vary depending on the type of system a homeowner has.
  • Filters
  • Flame Sensor
  • Voltage
  • AMP Draw
  • Gas Pressure
  • Temperature Rise and Drop
  • Heat Exchange
  • Full Safety Check
  • And More...
At the end of the inspection the technician may provide a list of repairs that are needed and a detailed list outlining what was checked. If you're the seller of a home, the detailed invoice can then be given to the new homeowner.

HVAC Tech Working on Mini Split Air Conditioner Heat Pump System
By Elijah Kuzmenko 13 Sep, 2019
A ductless HVAC mini split unit is a ductless air conditioner and heat pump that attaches to a wall in your home without using the ducts. If you are wondering about a ductless air conditioner cost, we can help! It is less invasive than a central air conditioning system. This is preferable to central air conditioning systems sometimes because ducts can be ugly and trap waste. Also, ducts have the potential to leak out the cool air making the air conditioner less efficient. A ductless mini split air conditioner avoids this. Mini splits are beneficial for zoning of a home, business, storage or a garage covering any size of square footage. Each mini split system comes in variety of SEER's and the number of indoor heads that can be plugged into a single mini split condenser. Small square footage rooms are the best for mini splits.
