The reason your furnace is blowing cold air might be just a simple fix like the air filter needs to be replaced or the pilot light is out. It is very important to get all issues with a furnace fixed right away as ignoring the issue can cause more damage to your furnace which can lead to costly repairs.

One of the most common reasons why your furnace is blowing cold air could be due to incorrect thermostat settings . Be sure to check that the thermostat fan setting isn't set to "on". If the fan is set to "on" then your systems fans will be continuously running without heat. The simple fix for this is to set the fan to auto. With the fan set to auto, it will only come on when it needs to circulate heat.

On a newer furnace, there could be a problem with the computerized controls. If you have an electronic control panel you may need to reset the system by restarting the furnace. Try shutting the furnace down, wait a few minutes, then restart the system. (This has a similar effect on the furnace as restarting a computer would have.)

If your furnace is still blowing cold air there might be an issue with the burner. The ignitor might be bad or it could be that the pilot light is out. If you have a gas furnace there might be an issue with the gas company or the supply to your furnace may need to be adjusted. Some other issues with the newer high-efficiency furnaces are that they have condensate drains that can become clogged which allows the water to back up and prevents the burner from lighting.

With all the many reasons why a furnace is blowing cold air call a professional HVAC company that will be able to give you an accurate diagnosis and get your system back up and running quickly.
